THE STORY OF SHIOK!
Inspiration
SHIOK! was established in 2012 by Caroline and Robin Tan from Singapore. After moving to Mountain Home in 2009, they realized that the City of Mountain Home and the Mountain Home Air Force Base community lacked a good authentic Asian restaurant. They chanced upon the famous Scrubby's BBQ restaurant outside the Air Force Base and spent a year remodeling it. SHIOK! had our soft opening on May 10, 2012. On July 16, 2012, we celebrated our Grand Opening graced by the former Mayor of Mountain Home, the Honorable Tom Rist.
And ever since, we have been labeled the “Li’l Gem in the Desert”.
Our Journey
SHIOK! celebrated our 11th year in business, thanks to our loyal supporters and guests from Mountain Home AFB, the surrounding cities of Mountain Home, Grand View, Hammett, Glenns Ferry, and Boise, and folks who simply googled and found us through the wonderful reviews that we received. Thanks for making us the Number 1 restaurant in Mountain Home and the Best Asian Restaurant in Idaho! As a matter of fact, we were cited by Roger Brooks International as one of the best Asian restaurants in the Northwest United States.
SHIOK! was voted by Boise's Best Bites as the Best Restaurant in Elmore County for 2017 and 2018. Also voted Best Restaurant 2021 by Restaurant Guru and Sluurpy. In 2022, LUXlife Magazine bestowed the award of "Most Innovative Singaporean Cuisine Restaurant - North America". In 2023, LUXlife Magazine awarded us with the "Most Authentic Singaporean Cuisine 2023 - Pacific Northwest USA". SHIOK! was voted by the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce as the Best Asian Restaurant in Mountain Home 2023. And to be announced in May 2024, LUXlife Magazine has awarded us with the "Best Authentic Singaporean Dining Experience 2024 - North America".
SHIOK! is also consistently rated as the Number 1 restaurant in Mountain Home on TripAdvisor.
